Monday

Because of the timing of low tide, we skipped our causeway walk and took Toby in the car to the dog beach at Honeymoon Island. Low tide means that the beach is wide, the waves are small, and the sandbar is walkable. Plus, the low tide was around 10:15 before the sun got too intense for Toby’s pink skin.

We got there around 9:30, and Toby was ready to go.

It gets easier and easier to coax him into the water. Once he commits, he loves it.

John had to hold the leash and keep the key fob and phone from getting wet.

Today, for the first time, Toby swam. In this picture, he just reached the sandbar.

This is the closest I ever got to getting a picture of him swimming. His body type is perfect for swimming. He’s chunky from the neck to the butt.

When he gets anxious, he goes between our legs.

He still has time to lure new friends with his patented “lying in wait” pose.

Who could resist, right?

So earnest.

Getting ready to swim back to shore

It was a beautiful day with mostly clear skies, temps in the mid 80s, and humidity in the 30s—just about perfect.

We walked as far south as we could because of the sand removal project.

You can see that the point is being removed and the channel widened.

A beach romp means a bath in the tub. He’s squeaky clean, glowing pink. He’s slept off and on the rest of the day.

We rode our bikes to the edge of Clearwater. We cut through Highlander and Hammock Parks and paralleled the Pinellas Trail using side streets. We circled this unnamed pond on Paloma Lane. Then we cut over to the American Legion and Coke bottling plant and got back on the trail heading south.
