We rode our bikes out to Honeymoon Island after dinner. The causeway was full of people.
The tide was so low there were little islands out in the sound.
I rode out to the island this morning before walking the causeway. These pictures from tonight's ride show they made a lot of progress in one day.
The tree above marks the former water line. You can see that the salt water from high tide was killing the tree.
Piles of sand, yet to be graded.
The sun setting over the new piles of sand.
The path on the right side of the fence marks the old beach. The new beach is a couple of feet higher on the other side of the fence.
The dredgers have moved on up the beach since this morning.
On the way home.
John met with a friend this morning, so I rode out to Honeymoon Island to take a look at the beach restoration project. The dredgers have moved their equipment past North Beach. It's not clear how much further they intend to go or if they will return to the Main Beach (from Bath House #1 to the beginning of Oasis Beach.
The picture above is from BH#3, looking south at the newly restored beach. All of the white sand in the picture is new.
This is the view north from BH#3. The edge of the parking lot marks the old high tide. Most of the sand beyond is new.
This is the view from the edge of the parking lot at North Beach. Most of this sand is new.
This pictures shows the northernmost edge of the project.
This is the southern end of Oasis Beach. All of the sand beyond the palm trees is new.
The picture above is from BH#2. You can see that there's not much beach at high tide. The new beach sand begins north of this, about 300 yards. All of the beach access boardwalks have had to be truncated because of storms. It seems this beach could use some sand, too.
After my tour of the project, I rode my bike to the causeway and parked at the squid, near the restrooms, and walked to the tidal bridge, back to the drawbridge, and then back to the squid. I made it home before lunch.
Fruit & veggie bowl: Navel orange, peach yogurt, cantaloupe, red grapes, cherries, beets, cucumbers, blueberries, cottage cheese
Turkey and cheese on toast with sriracha hummus
We had crockpot chicken cooked in marina sauce over rice for dinner.
Toby had a good day, walking in the neighborhood and Highlander Park.
Today's bike routes to Honeymoon Island x2
Miles walked: 6
Miles biked: 23.58

The beach project is amazing. Toby looks squeaky clean.
ReplyDeleteI finished market today and I am so thankful that I only had to be there 3 days and I don’t have any followup to do.
I can’t believe you worked market. Just getting dressed for it would make me not want to go.
ReplyDeleteWas it good to see old friends?
