Wednesday

I started the sprinkler repair yesterday but got interrupted by the rain. I got back at it this morning at 8:30 and finally finished at 4:30 this afternoon. No two sprinkler repair projects are the same, ever! The image above is the finished product.

After digging around the sprinkler and testing for the leak, I discovered the leak was in the supply line, so I had to dig around it until I could find the leak, a little less than two feet.

I had some doubts that I’d be able to fix this one, but a $$$ service call from a professional drove me forward.

I found the multiple leaks and figured out how to remove the damaged pipe and reconnect a new one. It took two trips to Ace Hardware to get the right combination of parts. One sprinkler head I tried shot water over to Anita’s yard and half of Wendy and Topher’s.

I took a break for lunch and a break for the gym, on my way to Ace the second time. It’s a good thing that I don’t need a second career as a sprinkler repair person. I would starve.

The shower and walk with John and Toby were nice. I stayed soaked in sweat and reclaimed water most of the day. There’s no way to test without getting soaked, either by the leaking sprinkler or the others coming at you on the same line.

We got takeout double cheeseburgers at Delco’s Steaks & Hogies for dinner.

John was the only one wearing a mask when he went in to pick up our order. Go figure: in Florida, 25,000 new Covid cases per day, 17,000 hospitalized, and 230 people dying every day—all records. Instead of the 5% or less tests coming back positive, Florida’s positivity rate is 20%, signaling widespread infections. The governor continues to downplay the problem and oppose common sense health guidelines as recommended by the CDC. Now he wants to withhold salaries of school officials who mandate masks in school. So far, 10 systems are rebelling.

Toby was pretty patient today, taking lots of naps. I predict full-on mayhem this evening.

We took him out to fetch. So far, so good.
