There were scattered showers today. In Florida, that means 20 minutes of hard rain followed by sunny, clear skies. And repeat. Between showers, we planted two new “Blue Me Down” flowers beside the two chairs to go with the one in front. We put down four more bags of mulch.

We’re making progress. John took out another big bush on the north side of the house. It was sickly looking.

I cut up the limbs for easy disposal. Nothing left except the trunk and root.

We drove to the causeway to walk this morning so that we could run by Ace Hardware to pick up mulch and plants before lunch.

We made it to the community center before the last shower.

Toby came over this morning and flopped down on me. He’s had a pretty good day. We had to dodge the showers a couple of times by delaying walks and play, which he did not understand.

He got a bloody nose when we were playing fetch in the backyard. The neighbors’ dog on the other side of the fence started barking which freaked Toby out. He went to investigate and got his nose scraped on some mesh fencing left from the previous owners. There is something terrifying about not being able to see what’s on the other side of a fence. It makes you strangely more afraid and emboldened at the same time. It turns out it was only Gunther, a sweet dog that he’s played with at the dog park before.

For the first time, Toby was able to open all of the compartments without ripping off the lids out of frustration. He used his injured nose to slide and flip the pieces where they needed to go to get to his kibble. I’m so proud of him.
