After lunch we rode our bikes over to the 13th annual Dogtoberfest at nearby Highlander Park. The festival is mostly a fundraiser for the Suncoast Animal League, but there were hundreds of vendors selling all sorts of pet paraphernalia. There were also dozens of rescue organizations with dogs ready for adoptions. We were lucky to get out of there without an extra 12 pounds of love.
We decided not to take Toby since we had never been before and didn’t quite know what to expect. I think it would have been over-stimulating for him. He has not been in large crowds like that with other dogs. I saw quite a few overstressed dogs. Some handled it in stride. I’d rather start with smaller crowds.
There were even more people here than at the recent arts festival.
You could make a donation and let your pet chase a lure around a track. There was also a Weiner dog race, costume competition, and a parade made up of previously adopted pets from Suncoast.
I’m glad we went. We saw lots of cute dogs. You can’t help but smile after being around so many dogs. It’s nice to know there are so many people involved in rescuing dogs and finding homes for them.
On our first 5:30 a.m. short walk, we were enveloped in fog. I told John it was a thick as snow falling out of the sky.
By 9:00, the fog had lifted and it turned out to be a nice day with temperatures in the mid 70s. There was a brief passing shower at noon.
I am with Toby to keep open not to miss anything. A chip off the ole block. Interesting fest for dogs. I will send photos later after dinner which is running late. Good yo hear from you.
