Thursday

The high today was 79 degrees, which is also the forecast high for 8 of the next 9 days. The lows will be in the lower 60s.

I enjoyed a beautiful fruit bowl with cottage cheese and yogurt for lunch with a chicken salad sandwich.

After lunch, I tackled a leaking sprinkler. Fortunately, I repaired a leak similar to this one the time before the last time I worked on the sprinklers. So I had a vague idea how to repair it.

Below the rigid pvc pipe in the picture above is a 1/2 inch flexible black pipe, which had dozens of small leaks. The black pipe is a 18 inch spur off of the pvc pipe and leads to a pop-up sprinkler. My least favorite part of sprinkler repair is the digging to find the leak. As you can see, the hole is pretty deep. The entire 18-inch section had to be dug out, plus some working room on each end where the connectors are.

After a trip to Home Depot for parts, I replaced the tube and connectors and then tested it for leaks. I had leaks at the joint connectors at both ends. I disassembled and applied plumber’s tape to the threads and reattached. That fixed the leak, but now the pop-up sprinkler was leaking.

I had run out of time, parts, and patience, so I left the hole uncovered for another rendezvous tomorrow.

Short daylight days make you work quickly, and I’m not a fast worker. I have to do a lot of thinking as I go. There’s a lot of trial and error to it.

John cut his hair today, and I trimmed up the back. It looks great.

We rode our bikes to the causeway this morning after our Toby neighborhood walk. Then we walked the causeway. It was foggy at first but burned off before we finished.

Toby goes to K9 Adventures tomorrow for the first time in a week. They were all booked up for the other days this week. I think he’s really missed it, especially today.

Because of the sprinkler project, we had to scramble to come up with dinner plans. John came up with our go to emergency meal: mac-n-cheese, peas, tuna, which saved us time.

Miles walked: 12.4
Miles biked: 5.04
