Tuesday

After lunch, we picked up Toby from daycare. We were told that he played constantly and had a good time. We skipped his nap time and took him downtown in the golf cart. We parked in the lot across from Pioneer Park and Alfresco's and walked down to the marina.

We got to practice "switch" a lot. That's where Toby switches from walking on one side of you to the other. It's cool to watch because he cuts in front of you and then loops around to be at your side. It's used whenever you are passing oncoming walkers or dogs and you want your body to be between him and the oncoming traffic. On crowded downtown sidewalks, it provides a buffer between him and the crowds, especially for people who are afraid of dogs.

We found a shady spot at the marina and watched people and boats come and go. I watched the sky through the palm trees.

I accidentally left my phone at home charging, so all the pictures are John's. These are sailing boats for the youth league.

Toby loved looking at the water and the boats.

It was in the low 80s, and there was a good breeze.

Toby allowed a couple of passers by pet him briefly. That’s something we’re still working on. He has to warm up to people before he lets them touch him.

It was high tide, beautifully clear water.

A little mangrove cave outside the marina.

Coastal Properties has painted their wall for the Easter Bunny. His basket is full of oranges. (Dunedin used to be an orange grove. Our neighborhood was nothing but orange groves until the 1960s.)

While Toby was in daycare this morning, we rode in the cart to Stirling Park and parked. Then we walked up the Pinellas Trail and then the Dunedin Causeway, all the way to Honeymoon Island State Park, about 7 miles round trip.

The Pinellas Trail is nicely shaded in the morning, along this stretch. It was about 75 degrees.

The county recently repaired and replaced sections of the sidewalk that make up the Dunedin Causeway Trail, a spur off of the Pinellas Trail. No more big bumps.

Dogtopia has finally put up some decorations in the lobby.

It feels corporate to me. So far, I haven't seen any advantages or upgrades compared to K9 Adventures. The only significant change has been the price increase. They still haven't turned on the cameras, the one thing that is different. The home page says there are 183 locations nationwide with 24 "coming soon," including this one.

In the news, I learned that next week, Dean Cain (of Superman fame) will be in Dunedin to portray the city’s mayor in the movie R.A.D.A.R.Adventures of the Bionic Dog.

John made some spaghetti for dinner.

We took a last golf cart ride to the community center to walk Toby one last time. We practiced heeling and auto sitting. Then we crossed Bayshore at Palm (official cart crossing) and drove out to see the sun setting.

Then we took the long way home with a diversion down Sturbridge.

John wanted to get this picture of the bromeliads growing on the old tree stump.

One last drive-by of Lake Saundra.

Miles walked: 11.2
