Wednesday

Toby’s new collar came today. John said his old collar was too dirty and needed replacing. My new walking shoes came today, too. I love shopping without leaving the house. I used to think it was inefficient to order things online, but I’ve changed my mind. It saves me time and gas, and Amazon drives by our house anyway.

After our Jet’s Pizza, we headed to Stirling Park in the golf cart.

We saw Osprey parents feeding their young.

We practiced some commands.

We took the long way home via Highlander Park. We came upon our neighbor with four kids in his golf cart. He challenged us to a drag race. We won because his cart was loaded.

Toby is getting the hang of free-range car riding. He gets banged around every once in a while, but he comes up waging his tail. This picture is from our Jet’s Pizza run. We can get there via golf cart. Maybe next time we’ll bring drinks and stop at the community center to eat.

After lunch, the three of us headed to Highlander Park to walk Toby and then to Ace Hardware to pick up a couple of items. We got these pictures of Canadian Geese at Lake Saundra on the way.

John spotted this squirrel looking at us as we drove through the park.

This was our second trip to Ace, the furthest and most complicated route via golf cart. We only had to look at the map once. The picture above shows Toby’s preferred riding position.

Toby was amazing in the store. After some initial shenanigans, he straightened up and kept his eyes on me. He did dozens of auto sits whenever I stopped, which is the part of the advanced exam that he struggled with in his last class. While we were checking out, he got into a down to wait. I wish his trainer could have seen us. He went straight for the treat bucket behind the counter when it was our turn at the register. The clerk obliged and gave him a treat.

Traveling by golf cart is so fun. It’s similar to biking in that there’s a good breeze and it feels open. It’s better than biking because you’re in the shade though. And you don’t have to pedal. Also, Toby gets to ride along. He can be fidgety at times, especially on the way somewhere. On the way home, he’s more relaxed.

It was 78 degrees this morning when we headed to the causeway to walk. We rode our bikes and parked at the bridge. The high temperature was 85 degrees.

John and Toby took a nap after lunch.
