Friday

The warmest part of the day was this morning when the temperatures were in the 60s and it was raining. Behind the rain, the temperature dropped to the upper 50s while the wind speed got up to 19 mph.

The sun did come out here and there but it felt very cold. We stayed in all day except for walking Toby and playing fetch in the back yard.

We have training at Petsmart tomorrow morning, so we needed to run some of Toby’s energy off.

Tomorrow is supposed to be windy too with high temperatures barely getting to 50 degrees.

I wanted to show that the skies are not always blue in Florida. We have overcast days, too.

This picture of the palm tree fronds shows the wind blowing.

Toby crawled up on the ottoman hoping to find some sunshine.

The wind and rain didn’t keep the city workers from pouring concrete. They’ve been busy making street repairs in our neighborhood.

Meanwhile, nearby Clearwater fired their city manager after just a year and a few months. Poor communication with the commissioners seems to be the main issue.

In other news, I read today that Clearwater’s recycling program stopped shipping their collections to the recycler and were instead shipping it to the landfill with their garbage—for the last 6 months! Something to do with retirements, lapsed contracts with vendors, among other issues. No one even knew until an employee spoke up.

The 5th annual Dunedin International Film Festival is underway this weekend. This year’s theme: “Picture this: a world of peace, love, and cinema.”  There will be feature length and short films at venues all over town. There will also be a Jolly Trolly tour of movie locations all around Pinellas County. The world premiere of a short film Beacon City will focus on the Florida Gulf Coast Hope Spot, a coastal conservation project.

Also on Sunday morning, there will be a celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr., beginning with a free unity breakfast at the church across from Weaver Park followed be a march to Pioneer Park where there will be speakers and music.

  1. Dunedin is “on the ball” in various ways. We had your blue skies today but chilly with some sunshine. Good luck tomorrow with Toby at Pet smart. Joan picked me up today for a birthday celebration lunch in
Durham at PF Chang. We had a lettuce wrap which was delicious. We stopped at a few of our favorite stores on the way back to Mebane.
A group of 13 prepared food for Eileen’s family who will begin coming in tonight. Our neighborhood was so quick to respond. We only ask the ones who have been here a while and knew Eileen to participate. Dad went to Durham to get his car washed today and had lunch at Bob Evens.

Enjoyed an Evening downtown with Cathy and Er and Sharon and alan. Pizza and salad and then movie at the local aperture cinema. A Man Called Otto. Jeff and I had read the book a Man Called Ove. So sweet and tender. For you non readers of mine, this is a must.
