Thursday

We delayed our causeway walk for an hour to give the sun time to warm things up. By the time we drove to the causeway, the temperature was in the 60s under a clear sky.

It was an easy walk. Even John was in shirt sleeves by the end.

John caught me half turned around. Surprise!

Since it was close to lunchtime, we decided to go to the Covered Bridge in honor of my Dad’s birthday. Unfortunately, they were closed. They are only open Thursday through Monday. So we backtracked to Cricketers in the Causeway Plaza.

We figured we might as well get their signature dish of fish and chips. Everything was nuclear hot and we were starving, but the food was merely okay. Greasy and flavorless, to be specific. We were disappointed. But I guess for pub food, it was to be expected. Carvor’s fish and chips are better with a light batter. From now on, we’ll stick to meatloaf and potatoes at Cricketers.

It turned out to be a beautiful day with a high of 75 degrees.

We contacted an electrician who lives a few doors down to take a look at disconnecting our defunct house alarm/intercom/radio/doorbell system @1991 from the electrical panel. We also asked for doorbell recommendations. Once that’s done, I can disassemble the unit and speakers throughout the house and we can be rid of this obsolete technology. I’ll wait until we begin the kitchen renovation so that the drywall repairs can be completed at the same time.

Perhaps we can coax the electrician into removing all the antennas in the attic and the one outside on a pole or get the name of someone who could do that. It looks like a CIA safe house up there. I think the equipment has some monetary value, but we just want it and the miles of coaxial cables gone. Apparently, the previous owner was into ham radios and getting free TV over the airwaves—for every room in the house!

The city workers removed the faulty curbing and put the concrete forms in place across from our house where the water used to pool. They have been working quickly.

We took Toby out for a late last walk.

Toby woke us up this morning at 3:30 with pre-throw up noises. Despite the hour, we were very happy because that meant the raccoon tail from the other day was coming up. I nudged him onto the tile floor and stabilized his stance so he could throw up. Sure enough, a large raccoon tail plopped onto the tile, much larger than I remember. He was excited and wagging his tail, clearly relieved, as were we. John and I reminded each other: don’t use toys as a baby sitter. Always supervise when Toby is playing with his toys. And throw away toys with flaws immediately.

Miles walked: 11.6
Miles biked: 0

  1. Pre throw up sounds are never good. Glad he got it out of his system.

It is cold dark and rainy and I have not had a spare minute. Attended an MLK symposium tonight with a journalist who has served 5 presidents. I might have enjoyed it more if I had had dinner and it didn’t last for 2 hours.

  2. Yesterday for Dad’s birthday we had lunch at a fish house in Burlington and then on to Publix for grocery shopping. Dad’s favorite orange juice was restocked and BOGO. Yes he bought 4. Today I had lunch with Louise, Paula and Robin for my birthday. We are finally back to normal and grateful. Sounds like you are a great parent as you recognized Toby’s problem AND helped him. 🐶👏👏Love to all.
