Saturday

Happy Birthday, John!

It was a busy day on the Pinellas Trail.

Long lines of bikers waiting to cross.

Our morning causeway walk was a pleasant 75 degrees with a 13 mph breeze.

After lunch, we took Toby to Weaver Park and then walked downtown and then to the Beer Festival at the marina. Round trip was a little over two miles.

There were tons of people and dogs. We wanted Toby to be exposed to both. He needs the practice. He did well. He was overwhelmed and kept to himself. I kept him on a short leash and that seemed to calm him down. Setting expectations kept him from lunging like last time when he got away from us.

Edgewater Park was crowded, just the kind of place we were looking for. We waded in and zig zagged through the vendors. We ran into causeway walkers and neighbors who recognized us and said hello. Toby got some compliments. He passed every dog without much of a look.

Crowds everywhere on the trail. It’s natural for us to avoid crowds, so it takes some determination to take Toby to these sorts of events.

The high today was 84 degrees, probably too hot for Toby to walk that far, but he did it without complaint, except as we passed Bark Place, the doggie ice cream store. He planted his butt in the middle of the Pinellas Trail and refused to budge, pulling in the direction of the store. I had to explain that it wasn’t his birthday.

John gave him a shower rinse when we got home.

For his birthday, John wanted Chinese food. He took this picture as we passed over Curlew Creek on our way to New Bamboo.

Miles walked: 12
Miles biked: 6.2

  1. Loved Toby’s reports. Yeah Toby. A big day tomorrow. Worship at GS then on to Calvary’s worship, lunch, recognition celebrating David’s 21 years of service. (As MMusic) Dad has been asked to speak re his experience working with David during Dad’s 4 interims at Calvary. Jan and Joan wants to attend all these activites. Should be interesting. Joan is Catholic and Jan is Lutheran backgrounds.

  2. The 6 person kayak reminds of a book a read The boys in the Boat about a rowing team at the Munich Olympics. Happy for Toby’s people skills and love his personality to hold still at Bark Place.

The best sepia photo that John took. Another frameable photo.
