The Dunedin Beacon featured the city’s proposal for a new aquatic center to be built on the site of the current pool at Highlander Park and completed in 2025. The current pool is leaking and outdated and beyond repair.
The proposed pool is billed as a multi-generational facility. There will be a competition pool with swim lanes, an activity pool with slides, and a shaded therapy pool for aerobics or therapy classes, and a lazy river pool. The pools will be built next to the existing spray ground splash pool for kids, rounding out the multi-generational theme. There will be new structures for food, shade, and concessions as well as showers and changing rooms.
The pool complex will cost $13.6 million, some of the funding made possible because of the American Rescue Act, passed by a Democratic-led Congress and signed into law by President Biden after the previous administration held many “infrastructure weeks” but never got around to doing anything even when they had the majority in Congress for two years. This infrastructure project is projected to serve the community for at least 40 years. The pool will be open to anyone, but Dunedin residents will receive a discounted admission because of the city’s investment in the project.
We stayed close to home on this overcast day to keep an eye on Toby. He continues to have diarrhea, but he’s eating and walking normally. After having to go at 3:30 this morning and again at 11:00, he made it until 7:00 tonight, and the results were a bit more solid and less gas. We took him for a walk around Highlander Park and then drove in the golf cart to Bambino’s to get a vegetarian pizza for lunch. While we were having lunch, Toby let out a huge fart and it scared him so bad, he jumped up and moved away suspiciously.
We passed by a vintage/hot rod car show near Highlander Park.
We had a high temperature of 79 degrees, and even though it was cloudy, it never rained. On our last walk of the day, we could feel temperatures dropping quickly. It was 66 degrees on the way to a low tonight of 53. Tomorrow will barely break 60 degrees. I hope this will be our last bout of winter weather, so we can go back to shorts and T-shirts.
We had oatmeal with blueberries for dinner.

We are enjoying an evening dinner out and now at a Il Divo concert. Look them up. Gorgeous men with beautiful voices.
ReplyDeleteWe had a very low key day. Never got around to my project I’ve been trying to do since returning from Dunedin. (Putting 2 bags of summer clothes out of site). Why do I think we will be using them soon????? Louise came over and visited an hour. Ellen brought over half of a brisket roast cooked in her crock pot. I added steamed cabbage and mashed potatoes. I took our left overs to Jan who is recovering from a heart aversion. I laughed out loud at Toby’s fart. He is sooooo funny. Quite a project re the pools/activity space. 👏👏A fabulous project!
