Our designer and the owner of the company met with us this morning to review some details and think through range vent options. We spent an hour and a half and a couple of phone calls afterwards. We solved a lot of problems but were unable to come up with a vent solution that we liked. The owner took pictures and was going to think about it some more. I did more internet research to no avail. We did find a portable countertop model that we could use when frying or boiling pasta and store at other times.
The designer called a few minutes before noon to tell us the electricians could come today. They arrived at noon. Four of them. We walked through all of the things that needed their attention. They relocated receptacles on the new open side of the kitchen, adding them to the two columns.
The added the wires for the microwave drawer.
And relocated the range wire and made it ready for a 4-prong connection.
They got the ceiling fan receptacle ready in the living room, combining the fan and light switch into one box instead of two. They will do the same for the eat-in kitchen fan switches and the sunroom switches. The electrician volunteered to do the sunroom switches since they are beside the eat-in kitchen switches. Much less cluttered looking. Three switches on one plate instead of five on three plates, two up and three down. He said it looked like a control room.
They added a receptacle for the end of the peninsula cabinet (when it arrives).
They relocated the dishwasher, disposal wires.
They removed several cable outlets.
They removed the home intercom remnants.
Combined fan/lights and upper accent lights. The top box gets covered over along with about 7 others!
Cable boxes removed. The drywall person is going to have a lot to fix!
We're getting new hardwired fire/smoke alarms in all of the bedrooms, per current code. The lead electrician was so tall that he could undo this one in the hall without a ladder.
They removed the fire/smoke alarm in the kitchen because that's against code. The electrician said people just used them as an oven timer. When they go off, it's time to take what you're cooking out of the oven. I liked him. He was quick witted and very smart.
The electricians return tomorrow to finish up. I think they will wait until plaster work is done before hanging the ceiling fans.
We stayed close to home today but enjoyed our walk yesterday on the causeway.

Good update.
