Sunday

Beautiful sunset

Today's project was to replace the exterior garage door knob and deadbolt with a new polished chrome lever and deadbolt.

Our designer pointed out that our old hardware was installed upside down. The deadbolt is supposed to go on top. Because we're replacing the knob with a lever, it's especially important that the lever be on the bottom so that it doesn't extend over the window.

We had to order a double cylinder deadbolt, meaning that it has a key on both sides, not just the outside.

Having a key on the inside means that an intruder can't reach through the screen and unlock the door from the inside with a twist of the lever.

This deadbolt is a bit more robust than the ones in the sunroom and second bath where the locks are protected by thick glass.

With this deadbolt, we need to keep a key handy to get out.

  1. IMPRESSED with all the things to think of with changing the locks. Great job. Wouldn't have noticed the old combination but the replacement is VERY noticeable and pretty.
