Dee Dee Makes it to the Beach

We gave our walking feet a break today. We only walked 8 miles. So we took Dee Dee out to the dog beach on Honeymoon Island via car. It was about 9:30 and 75 degrees, not many clouds or people.
She had a great time sniffing and peeing on everything she could find.

She's eating several times a day, per the doctor's orders, trying to put some meat on her bones.

We were heading out on our bikes to pick up our second masks that our friend in Palm Harbor made for us. She got our head measurements and John picked out the fabric over the phone. On our way, we passed our neighbors with the "Love is Love" yard sign. John said he liked it, and she asked if we wanted one. Somehow when she ordered it, they sent two. So we took it and planted it in our front bed.

I am so sick of Trump and his hatred, bullying, lies, and incompetence. Some folks, hoping for the best, thought that the dignity of the office or the adults around him would temper him, that somehow all his boorish campaign tactics and deplorable rhetoric were just a show and that he would use his considerable talents to lead the nation in a better direction. As it turns out, the "American carnage" that he talked about in his inaugural address was a prophecy of his presidency to come. We can do so much better. He has turned out to be worse than anyone could have imagined.

Here's a shot of our new masks:

It's adjustable. By pulling on the side strings, you can make it tighter around the face. The last design she made for us had elastic ear loops. I never dreamed that I would need a wardrobe of masks in retirement.

We took a nap after lunch. Then we headed back to the beach via bike for a human walk. Clouds had moved in. It was 87 degrees, but the wind was blowing over 10 miles per hour, so it was just about perfect. The water was as clear and still as a lake. We biked over 18 miles today.

My work friends at the Orange County Campus have invited me to a Zoom party to play a game and to give me a "proper send off" in their words. That should be interesting. I only worked there two days a week, but they're a tight bunch, and I appreciate them thinking of me.

This is the strangest flower. It's blooming in our side yard. Nature is fascinating--when it's not busy trying to kill everyone.
