Thursday

After lunch we lazed around the house catching up on house and financial chores. Then we rode our bikes to Publix. We rode past Publix, on to the Pinellas Trail bridge that crosses Alt. 19 at the northern boundary of Dunedin to see the view.

I took this shot from the bridge by placing my camera lens within one of the chain link squares. That's St. Joseph's Sound in the distance and the Dunedin Youth Guild Park in the foreground.

The Pinellas Trail on the way back home.

Heavy rain moved through the area around 5:00 p.m.

We walked the Dunedin Causeway this morning.

We were both trying to absorb the latest Trump news. In his own recorded words, he tells us that he knew from the beginning that the Corona virus was highly contagious, could be transmitted by breathing the air near someone, and that children could become seriously ill from COVID-19.

And then he lied and told people it was like the flu, held political rallies of his own supporters in enclosed arenas, mocked people for wearing masks, bullied governors to "liberate" their states even though they had high infection rates, and bullied schools to open, saying that children hardly ever get the disease ("It's almost like they're immune," he said.)

His excuse for lying? He said he didn't want to scare people. That, too, is a lie. Frightening people is his M.O. Chaos and panic is how he thrives. When told by his own intelligence experts that the virus represented the most serious national security threat of his presidency, he decided to ignore them and to lie about it.

Why did he lie? Does it really matter? A moral person and a good leader would have responded honestly and effectively and not have made the situation worse.

The horrors of this presidency just go on and on. Yesterday, he was questioning why a soldier would sign up to fight for his country when there wasn't anything in it for them, that the fallen soldiers were losers, that the disabled vets should not march in parades because "no one wants to see that." Then (to distract from the damaging story), he besmirched the military leadership calling them "a bunch of pussies" who only wanted to fight wars to enrich their former companies, even though he is the one who appointed them and even though he is the one promoting arms sales to countries that we have not sold arms to before to enrich those same companies.

Every day it's something new to bemoan and bewilder the conscience of proud Americans.
