Friday

The temperature on our causeway walk was 73 degrees. The high today was 84. The humidity was around 50%. We took Toby on his morning walk and then dropped him off at K9 Adventures while we headed to the causeway to walk.

We picked him up after lunch and got a good report. He played outside with a dozen puppies. The caretakers said he played in the pool filled with balls and led the group in a zoomie session. They keep telling us he’s doing great. On our next visit we are going to time it so that we can take a tour and get better visuals of the layout and play areas. We’ve only seen pictures. I’m curious to learn how nap time works.

In the picture above, John is checking for scratches. (Nothing major found.) The dogs are never left alone and the caregivers are trained in reading doggie body language in case a dog does something inappropriate. The dogs are screened for aggression and grouped according to temperament. What a fun job that must be, to be around happy dogs all day and getting paid to watch them play. The workers all seem devoted and happy.

Toby got a new two-handed leash. John’s trying it out in the picture above. It’s for
“heeling” and for holding him close, like near traffic, children, other dogs, and in class. When Toby needs to pee, you just let go of the lower handle. It’s a brilliant design.

We could tell from the walk that he was tired from daycare.

I made a quick trip to the gym for my Friday workout.

We fed his dinner in his easy and hard puzzles. He solved the hard puzzle without any hints from me. It’s amazing how he’s learned how to move the tiles and keep up with where the remaining kibble is. He’s clearly using his nose to smell and his paw to move the tiles. He no longer tries to use his teeth. Through frustration comes learning.

We’ve noticed that after dinner is a time where he invents games to play, his games which are awful! So we were ready tonight. We had two taped up cereal boxes with kibble inside.

We call it his dessert. After dessert, he tried to move on to his game, but John intervened. Toby was given a choice: go to the crate and chill or go to his bed and chill.

He chose his bed.

John made crockpot chicken and rice with marinara sauce, which means I had to wash the heavy crockpot. As luck would have it, the weight shook loose the tightening ring (that holds the drain to the sink) that I had tightened previously after it had been leaking for awhile. At the time, I wondered how it had gotten loose. Now I know: the threads were stripped. All it took was the heavy pot to shake it loose. Of course, all the crock pot gunk went down into the cabinet and puddled under the sink. At least it didn’t stay there for days.

I attempted to take it apart and clean it, not wanting to spend any money on a sink that will soon be demolished with our kitchen renovation. However, it was beyond repair. So ten minutes till 7:00 p.m., I headed to Ace to get a new drain set.

The new one was taller than the old one, so I sawed off a bit of the white pipe to get a good fit. Then reassembled. This time I think I’ve got it fixed.

New sink drain

It’s always something!

Toby at rest tonight.

  1. This blog is awesome. What a day you had. Whew!!! I spent the day helping Janet Breedlove look for fabric in out areas to recover her dining room chairs.

  2. I kept a puppy for a friend yesterday and had to leave for a few times. When I got home, my pillows were everywhere. It can hop up on the furniture, get in the dishwasher, hop up on the porch table. I had some frames on a chair in the front bedroom and they were on the floor where he had jumped up in the chair to look out the window. poor Walter and I were exhausted when he left. It was a King Charles spaniel poodle mix and just precious but a handful.
