It was another hot morning on the causeway. The temperature said 81 degrees, but the heat index was 99 degrees.
I had to turn around at the tidal bridge, but John walked all the way to the park entrance. I don't know if I can do this over the next three months. I might have to make other arrangements. Getting old is tough.
I had three bottles of water. We wet our heads and shirts at the outdoor shower. We walked back to our bikes along the waterfront and followed a couple of dolphins.
Obviously, I had trouble getting them in the center of the frame.
There we go.
After lunch, we took Toby in the go cart to Highlander Park and walked in the shade. It was 90 degrees.
Such a lovely walkway.
No hat required.
When we got home we cooled off and then tossed the ball in the backyard for Toby. We wanted him to burn off some energy before training this afternoon at Petsmart.
We saw Herbie the love bug at Petsmart this afternoon.
Training was a nightmare. Toby didn't want to do anything. He was so bad that he messed up the lessons where the dog has to build on the previous dog's command. Things came to a grinding halt when it was our turn because Toby refused to do the first command, much less the second, third, and forth.
Here is his response to the down command. (He should be lying on the floor.)
He tries to walk away.
I try again and he gives me the doggie middle finger.
Completely powerless. I think someone told him it was his birthday and he could do whatever he wanted.
I told the trainer that he doesn't get into a down on tile at home; we always do it on the rug. She laughs in my face, takes the leash, and rattles off: sit, down, stand. Toby goes pop, pop, pop. He does all three without any treats to her commands—on the cement floor. She handed the leash back to me, along with my pride.
It was a very humbling day. John called it character building.
Tomorrow morning, Toby’s getting “sit” “down” “stand” for breakfast!
