Dunedin commissioner Jeff Gow knocked on our door this afternoon asking for our vote. We had already planned to vote for him. We got to talk for a good amount of time about city politics. I praised his recent vote not to cut taxes for next year’s budget. He agreed that cutting taxes is always popular until people realize the implications of cutting services. Then they complain that the city government is dysfunctional, and the cycle continues and people get a city that looks bad and that no one wants to live in. The city employees work really hard. The recent hurricane offered plenty of evidence. Every sewage pump station was hooked up to a portable generator the day before. Then removed the day after. Trash, yard waste, and recycling were canceled for two days during the storm. On Friday, they picked up one and a half days and Saturday they picked up the rest, even though they don’t normally work on Saturday. Because the city is so compact, roughly 5 miles by 1.5 miles with 37,000 people, you can’t help but see the employees working. Gow left us a yard sign.
We had a friend come over to visit so that we could work with Toby on his hosting etiquette. In the picture above he’s trying to sit nonchalantly on the armrest and join the conversation. He wasn’t horrible the entire time. Fortunately, our guest has a 2 1/2 year old dog, so he was very understanding and patient. Toby eventually settled down after about 30 minutes of barking, whining, and jumping. He finally figured out that our guest was not a dog who would play with him. We are trying to get Toby better behaved around company. It’s a work in progress.
The day was beautiful: a high temperature of 79 with a low in the 60s. We rode our bikes to New Bamboo to pick up our egg foo yung.
The Pinellas Trail was busy all day.
We took an after lunch Toby walk to Lake Saundra.
And we played fetch in the back yard.
For which Toby showed his gratitude.
Toby is exhausted from all his social interaction.
This morning’s causeway walk was so beautiful and easy! We didn’t sweat at all and only needed water at the water fountain, so our hands were free.
Last walk of the day: 75 degrees.
Today’s bike routes to the causeway, Clearwater, and the Causeway Plaza
Miles walked: 9.2
Miles biked: 20.70

Toby’s visitor interaction was so funny—especially pose on the sofa arm. He keeps us laughing. Rained all afternoon. Enjoyed your visit via phone tonight Perry. Love to the family.
