Monday

We’ve had a slow day due to the cold. Our first walk was in 49 degrees. It did warm up to 61 degrees but the wind was blowing 10-12 mph, which makes it feel much colder. I know that doesn’t make sense to those enduring below freezing temperatures, but it’s true.

After our morning walk, we headed to the post office, along with all of the other retirees in the city, to mail our plates to Replacements, Ltd. It felt good to complete that task. We were even able to insure it and have it sent priority mail for $37.

I spent several hours doing research on what to do with our many music CDs, my next box of stuff to get rid of. At first, I stumbled upon a site that buys them, about $2, depending on the CD, and oftentimes even less. Selling them on EBay is about the same, plus you have to deal with shipping. Many people suggested donating them to the library or to independent book/record stores. Some said just to put them in the trash but noted that it would take 1,000 years for them to decompose.

Then my research shifted  to storing the music electronically on our computer and then sharing it with our phones. At one time, this is what we had, but a computer/phone upgrade wiped them out. Apple stopped including a CD drive on iMacs, so there was no way to copy the CDs to our hard drive.

The solution? Buy a $80 external CD drive and transfer them to the Apple Music app on our computer’s hard drive where they will stay and be accessible across devices. I’m going to investigate this solution some more. I’m hoping that once I have them stored on my hard drive, I can then donate the CDs to the library.

It’s frustrating to have a box full of CDs that we have no way to play. When our Sirius contract runs out in the car, we’re going to need some commercial free music. With our music on our phones, we’ll be able to play music through the car’s speakers via Bluetooth. So the new external CD drive solves a couple of problems.

Toby only has to worry about who’s peeing on his front lawn.

Tomorrow morning will be cold again, around 47 for our morning walk and finally getting to the low 70s in the afternoon. I might be able to make it to the gym if it’s not too windy.

  2. Let me know about your CD research. We have CD’s that we can’t play. I was reminded that I have an Il Divo Cd, the group we heard in Charleston. I can always ask Alexa to play but still. Just got home from book club, after driving home fromCharleston via Julie’s house to pick up Maggie and continue to sort through Carlow things. Glad to be home. Grateful for a wonderful weekend with friends
